The view from the top

Literally! On Friday morning we were psycho and took the 19 mile drive up to the top of Pike's Peak. The base of the mountain is just shy of 8,000 feet and the top of the mountain is 14,110 feet. Needless to say I felt every bit of that! It wasn't until we got out of the car that I realized how little oxygen there really was. It didn't help that the temperature at the top was 35 degrees. Surprisingly, Kaylie did great. The view from the top was breath taking. You could definitely see God's work.

As nice as it was to get up there it was just as nice to get back down on the ground. The crazy thing is that once a year thousands of people run a 26 mile race up to the top and back down. Are they stupid?!?

We were able to get up to the top before it got too over cast. The next day the weather was so bad you couldn't even see the mountains. We were glad we made it up when we did.
"America the Beautiful" was inspired by being up here.

The fudge at the summit was so good. We were starving and could have eaten all of it.

Once you are at the top of the summit you have to get a "summit donut." These well known donuts are known for the best donuts at the highest altitude. We devoured them! If you are ever up there we highly recommend!!!

Even though the altitude was hard on me it was worth every minute. The beauty was incredibly calming and I felt blessed to be up there with my loving husband and my beautiful baby girl.

The Garden of the Gods

We got in on Thursday morning. Since Jason only had a few days we decided to take advantage of every minute we had and since we knew a cold front was coming in on Saturday we decided not to wait on the things we wanted to do.

That afternoon we went to the Garden of the Gods. They had a walking trail that took us through all of the major rock formations.

This wolf was definitely bigger than her but she did not seem to care. I am just glad it is stuffed!

Garden of the Gods behind us. It was absolutely beautiful.

Every time Jason would sqwat down to take a picture of her she would imitate him. It made it hard to get a picture with a scenic view versus just a view.

Her new fascination is flowers. She kept stopping and pointing.

First plane trip

Kaylie has now had her first official plane trip and I would have to give her an A++++. My baby girl did fantastic! Jason and I decided it was time to take the risk and planned a trip to see Laura and her family in Colorado Springs. Laura and I were college roommates, lived with each other in Dallas, and were in each others weddings. We have stayed in touch since and have been able to get together once a year and this year happened to be our turn to see them.

This was Jason's first trip to Colorado so we decided to make it a family trip for the first 4 days touring pretty much every part of Colorado Springs before he left this morning. Kaylie and I will and stay for another week and come back by ourselves. I was definitely glad he was with us to get Kaylie there. I do not think I would have made it on my own. If I was to rate myself I would give myself an F---- for the time before we left for the airport and an A once we actually got on the plane. Since I am staying for another week we will see how both of our ratings change. I am not looking forward to flying with her by myself. If we all think positive thoughts things will hopefully go well.

I love her!

I just loved this picture!

Are you ready for some...

FOOTBALL
- Aggie football that is. Jason has been chompin at the bit to get to football season
and now that it is we are all football all the time both college and professional. Kaylie dressed to show her support to her future school.
This shirt Kaylie is wearing is a tribute to her daddies bus driving days back when he was in College. He drove them for several years and loved it. Thanks Jolie for finding the shirt for us. It fits great!
